Have you ever sat in a classroom learning a new system and the instructor leaves out the business color surrounding your job tasks. For instance, the instructor doesn’t tell you:
- What the trigger is that requires you to perform the task in the system?
- Who is responsible for performing the task in the system?
- What the prerequisites are? For example, are there manual, other system, or interface steps that have to occur first?
- What values are valid within any given field?
- Which fields are system required and which fields are business required?
- What fields are dependent upon previous field entries?
- What are the subsequent steps?
- What happens if you inadvertently skip a step? Will it affect upstream processes?
